Fire crews attend garage fire in Colby

by isleofman.com 13th January 2012

FIRE crews from Port Erin were called to a garage fire in Colby this morning (Friday).

An emergency call was received at 11.10am regarding the fire which had ignited at a property in Croit e Caley.

On arrival firefighters discovered that the homeowner had been able to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher.

They spent 40 minutes at the scene using a thermal imaging camera to ensure that the fire had not spread into adjoining walls or ceilings.

It was discovered that a fuse box had been totally destroyed by the fire.

Isle of Man Fire and Rescue has reminded members of the public to fit garages with a smoke or heat detector and to try and minimise the number of "combustibles" stored.

It is also advised that domestic electrical installations should be tested every 10 years, and fire extinguishers every year.
