POLICE are urging shopkeepers and pub bosses to be vigilant after a couple used a scam to steal money from businesses.
A warning has been issued after Police revealed there were a number of incidents across the Island yesterday (Thursday, January 12) involving the same two people.
A spokesman said: "Police would encourage shop and pub owners to be aware that a distraction and/or confusion technique is being used to exchange cash from one denomination to another and in doing so monies have been stolen."
The offenders are a man and a woman who the police say "appear to be of Asian appearance".
The woman is described as 40 to 45 years old, with dark long hair and of a heavy build.
She had a plaster under her left eye and was wearing a sari and a cream coat.
The male is also described as being 40 to 45 years old, with short straight black hair of a slim build.
He was wearing a black hat, a dark jacket and a red scarf. Both are described as being "smiley and chatty".
They are believed to be driving a large silver BMW saloon.
A spokesman added: "Police request that any sightings of the two described persons be reported to Police and would urge businesses not to engage in the changing of money with this couple."
Anyone who has any information which could lead to the identity of the couple should ring Douglas Police Headquarters on 631212.
