Route into Castletown to be closed for “critical” gas works

by isleofman.com 12th January 2012

MANX Gas will close Alexandra Road in Castletown next week to carry out natural gas conversion work.

The road will be closed between S&S Motors and the traffic lights at Castletown Corner from Monday, January 16.

Engineering manager Robert Gardner said: "A critical phase has now been reached and the final connection to the south area of the Island.

"In order to carry out the crossing of the railway line at Alexandra Road and connect to the existing gas mains we will, unfortunately, have to close Alexandra Road."

The road will be closed between 9am and 4pm each day and the work is expected to be finished by January 23.

Mr Gardner continued: "Manx Gas will however keep the public informed of any amendments to this possible completion date.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused and will make every effort to complete these works as quickly as possible but in a safe manner."
