by isleofman.com 10th January 2012

Douglas Bay Pirates took a commanding lead in the Cherry Orchard League at the NSC on Sunday after a 7-0 victory over Ramsey Rebels.

Josh Ffrench and Stephen Gale won the pairs for the Pirates with a 13-7 victory, before Gale added another two points after winning the singles 18-1.

The triples was much closer but the Pirates held on to an 8-7 win to complete the victory and move nine points clear at the top.

Ballaugh stayed in second place despite losing 4-3 to Laxey Minors, who move up to third.

David Cottier and Peter Coward won the pairs 11-7 for the Minors and Seamus Whelan took the singles 8-7 to give them a 4-0 lead in the game.

But an impressive display from Ann Gale, Dave McTaggart and Richard Faragher saw Ballaugh bounce back in the triples with an 11-2 victory to take two points and the bonus point.

Colby Cosmos had an impressive 5-2 win over Ronaldsway Blockbusters.

Ann Hollingworth and Pauline Kelly won the opening pairs 17-4 for the Cosmos and Hollingworth then won her singles 10-8.
