Modernising bye-laws moves a step closer

by isleofman.com 7th January 2012

Progress is at last being made towards modernising general bye-laws in Douglas.

Councillors have been frustrated while the process has dragged on for years, but the Attorney General's department has now produced a revised list, based on the local authority's initial draft.

It's hoped the policy and resources Committee will formally ratify the proposals by the end of March, after which they will go before Tynwald for final approval, prior to implementation.

The committee says progress on updating the recreation and leisure bye-laws, and those for housing, has been even slower.

However, it's hoped that once the general bye-laws have been approved, the others might flow more easily, as the general principles of powers and matters which may or may not be included will have been established.
