Town surprise in opener

by isleofman.com 7th January 2012

Castletown A caused an opening day surprise with a 2-1 victory over Vikings A in the Wi Manx men’s Premier League.

James Ormand and Paul Kelly scored the goals for the southerners with Juan Corlett on target for Vikings.

Karl Moore was the hero as champions Bacchas A launched their title defence by hitting eight past their B team without reply.

He notched five with Johnny Callow, Jamie Brown and Will Wood netting the others.

Doubles from Vic Fearns and Ollie Webster, plus one each from Gareth Morris and Chris Caldwell, fired Valkyrs A to a convincing 6-0 win over Ramsey A.

Kim Carney was the star of the show in the Wi Manx women’s Premier League.

She hit five as champions Vikings A thrashed their B team 9-0.

Louise Slater (two), Katie Errock and Hayley Crowe grabbed the others.

An Andrea Kneen hat-trick and goals from Emma Miller, Ashley Hall and Ellen Cleator ensured there was no shock in the all-Valkyrs club clash, while Sharon Pope, Niamh Goddard and Claire Louise Lace found the net as Bacchas A ran out 3-0 winners over Ramsey A.
