A SOUTH Douglas MHK will call for the closure of "loss making" Manx Electricity Authority shops in Tynwald this month.
Liberal Vannin Party member Kate Beecroft will ask the January sitting of Tynwald to support her motion for the "cessation of this operation" in what she calls "difficult financial times".
The MEA has five retail units around the Island in Port Erin, Peel, Castletown, Ramsey and Douglas.
In 2010 it was revealed that the units had made a loss of £414,000 the previous year.
Mrs Beecroft said she believes the Isle of Man Government should be prioritising its operations and will ask Tynwald to stop the retail units operating "as soon as practical".
She will also ask the Council of Ministers to report on progress made towards the cessation by the March sitting of Tynwald.
