Council appeals for sponsorship for events

by isleofman.com 5th January 2012

DOUGLAS Council is appealing for sponsorship for three major events.

On Saturday, July 7 it will hold a Party in the Park at Noble's Park, in lieu of its annual fun day, to commemorate the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

In November it will hold a fireworks display and then later in the month its Christmas lights switching on ceremony will take place. The latter is provisionally planned for Thursday, November 22.

Council leader David Christian said: "The council's response to these changed times when budgets are under pressure has been to develop productive partnerships with the private sector and we have been encouraged by the level of sponsorship of our more high-profile community events attracted in 2011.

"While recognising the continuing gravity of the economic downturn the council remains committed to doing all it can to hold events that can bring communities and generations together in a spirit of celebration.

"With this in mind we are willing to consider alternative funding mechanisms and would welcome sponsorship proposals for our 2012 events programme."

Proposals must be received no later than 5pm on Thursday, February 2.
