by isleofman.com 4th January 2012

A worker on a Manx registered ship lost his life in the gales which pounded the British Isles yesterday (Tuesday).

According to reports, the man was a crew member on board a chemical tanker which was hit by a large wave about 13 miles off the Eddystone Lighthouse, on the Devon and Cornwall coast.

Coastguards in Falmouth were called out at around 11.40am, after three men were injured.

A Royal Navy helicopter from RNAS Culdrose in Cornwall airlifted one of them to hospital in Plymouth where he later died.

The others received treatment for suspected bone fractures.
