2011 warm, but not in the summer!

by isleofman.com 3rd January 2012

The weather summary for 2011 includes a remarkable statistic concerning snow.

For the first time in 20 years, there wasn't a single occasion when the 'white stuff' fell at Ronaldsway.

It was third warmest year on record, although none of the extra warmth came during the summer months, which were all cooler than normal.

It may feel as if there were heavy snowfalls within the past twelve months, but they all came before the end of 2010. There were also significant amounts of snow the previous year.

A mean annual temperature of 10.76 Celsius put 2011 on the all-time podium, behind 2006 (10.93) and 2007 (10.98).

The highest temperature of the year was 22.7 Celsius, around 72.5 Fahrenhit, on June 3, and the lowest air temperature was minus 2.9 Celsius, on January 7.

It was particularly sunny in the first part of the year, and rainfall during 2011 was eight per cent lower than normal.
