A Ramsey youth worker who has been awarded the MBE in the Queen's New Year's Honours says she is absolutely delighted.

Cathy Christian has become the voice of young people in the town through her work at the Ramsey Young People's Project, over 16 years.

She is described as a tireless and devoted youth worker who has helped prevent social problems in the town.

Cathy is thanking all those who nominated her for the award and says she was bowled over at the news (listen to audio file below):

Elaine Christian, who has been a JP in the Isle of Man for 27 years, has also been awarded an MBE.

She is a long-serving member of the Independent Monitoring Board for the Isle of Man Prison, was a founder member of Victim Support on the Island and helped set up David Gray House.

There will be more from both Mrs Christians in Mandate on Tuesday (January 3), from 7.30am.
