MBE on society's many victims

by isleofman.com 2nd January 2012

A long-serving magistrate awarded an MBE in the Queen's New Year's honours says she is motivated by a desire to help both victims and those who commit crimes.

Elaine Christian is one of two Manx women to receive the award this year.

She has been a JP for 27 years, sits on the prison Independent Monitoring Board, helped set up the David Gray House probation hostel, and was a founder member of Victim Support on the Island.

Mrs Christian says seeing the effects of crime from many different angles has driven her to play a part in offering compassion and support in the criminal justice system (listen to audio file below):

The other MBE recipient this year is Cathy Christian, honoured for her work in the Ramsey Youth Service.

Businessman Eddie Davies from Ballasalla was awarded the CBE for charitable work, to add to his existing OBE.
