Manx speaker needed for Dhone ceremony

by isleofman.com 30th December 2011

Organisers say they are still looking for somebody to deliver a Manx oration at next week's annual Illiam Dhone ceremony.

The gathering takes place on January 2 at Hango Hill, where Illiam Dhone was put to death in 1663, after surrendering the Isle of Man to the English.

Each year, nationalists gather at the site on the anniversary of his death to hear two speeches, one in Manx Gaelic and the other in English.

Mark Kermode says finding somebody to deliver a message in Manx has been unusually difficult this year (listen to audio file below):

The Illiam Dhone ceremony is at 2pm on Monday.
