FIRE crews from Douglas attended an electrical fire at an office in Victoria Street, Douglas, in the early hours of this morning (Wednesday) after a fire alarm went off.
They arrived the scene just after midnight and firefighters quickly discovered there was a strong smell of burning on the third floor along with smoke logging.
They entered the lift motor room and discovered the lift's electrical intake board was smouldering.
The electrical unit was quickly isolated allowing crews to vent the top floor of the building before calling for specialist advice from the Manx Electricity Authority.
Due to the quick action taken by the initial crew the incident was confined to the lift motor room and did not have time to develop and spread to neighbouring properties.
The Fire and Rescue Service is highlighting the importance of a fully working fire alarm system like the one which helped bring this incident to a speedy conclusion.
A spokesman said: "Without the early detection of this incident fire crews are convinced this had the potential to become a major incident and possibly affect a number of properties."
