A Christmas message from Crossroads Caring for Carers

by isleofman.com 25th December 2011

A CHRISTMAS message for isleofman.com readers from Jackie Betteridge from Crossroads Caring for Carers:

"Christmas is a time for families and for celebrating what we have but for most of us it boils down to worrying about doing the shopping, wrapping, cooking and cleaning.

"For someone looking after a child, partner or parent with an illness, disability or frailty, Christmas can be especially hard with added stresses and strains.

"This can have a knock on effect on relationships and work commitments.

"Christmas is a time when we talk about charity and giving and this year we would like you to think about those who give of themselves all year round - carers.

"Maybe you are a carer or have been, maybe you will become one in the future, maybe a friend, neighbour or work colleague is looking after someone.

"Spare a minute to think about carers this year - appreciate the sacrifices they make and then do that shopping, get wrapping and enjoy a Merry Christmas."

Jackie Betteridge is the chief executive of Crossroads Caring for Carers and chair of the Council of Voluntary Organisations. For more information on Crossroads telephone 01624 673103.
