June 2011: Google Street View goes live for the Isle of Man

by isleofman.com 30th December 2011

GOOGLE Street View for the Isle of Man went live for the first time in June.

People were able to navigate 360 degree street level imagery of places and landmarks across the Island.

Google Street View was first launched in May 2007 but it took until 2010 for the Google Street View cars to visit the Island. They travelled over in April and August to capture the images.

Speaking in 2010 Alex Downie MLC, Political Member for the Department of Economic Development, said: "We are really pleased that Google is extending its coverage of Street View to cover the Isle of Man.

"People around the world will be able to see the natural beauty and features unique to the Island. Potential visitors can take a tour of the Island and be inspired to come and visit our shores."
