THE TT in June 2011 proved to be as dramatic – and as fast – as ever.
Ian Hutchinson, who made history at TT 2010 by becoming the first man to win five races in a week, was ruled out of the event due to an ongoing injury.
He had been involved in a serious racing incident at Silverstone at the end of the 2010 season but the determined Yorkshireman, who had fought hard to try to be fit for the TT, did take part in a parade lap during the fortnight.
John McGuinness, who had not had a single podium at TT 2010, was back to his winning ways in the TT Superbike race when he notched up his 16th win.
And the Morecambe missile made it 17 when he won the Senior as well.
He also had two second places during the fortnight, making up for the disappointment of TT2010.
Klaus Klaffenbock and Daniel Sayle won Sidecar Race One while John Holden and Andrew Winkle reached the top of the podium for the first time in Sidecar Race Two.
New Zealander Bruce Anstey notched up his eighth TT win with victory in the Supersport Race One event while Englishman Gary Johnson won Supersport Race Two – his debut TT win.
Michael Dunlop claimed the second TT win of his career with victory in the Superstock race.
TT 2010 had ended with drama when popular competitors Guy Martin and Conor Cummins were both involved in separate high speed incidents which were well documented in the TT3D: Closer To The Edge film.
Conor suffered a number of serious injuries but both of them rode at TT 2011, with Guy reaching the podium four times.
Michael Rutter won the one lap TT Zero race for electric machines, just shy of a 100mph lap, with an average speed of 99.604mph.
2006 MotoGP champion Nicky Hayden and retired five-times 500cc World Champion Mick Doohan were among the visitors to the TT in 2011 and as soon as the event came to an end fans began to count down the days until TT 2012.
