March 2011: Olympics apologise after ticket mix up

by isleofman.com 27th December 2011

ORGANISERS of the 2012 Olympic Games apologised to Manx residents in March over a ticket mix up.

It came after some Manx residents were sent an email saying they were not eligible to get tickets from the London 2012 website and were told they had to get them from their National Olympic Committee (NOC) or authorised ticket retailer instead.

This was despite Manx athletes being eligible to compete for Team GB in the games and the Island, while not part of the UK, is part of the British Isles.

An Olympic spokesman told the BBC: "People on the Isle of Man were sent a London 2012 email in error suggesting they would not be able to apply for tickets to the games via the same process as the rest of the UK.

"We apologise for this and any inconvenience caused and we have sent a correction to all those affected.

"We will, of course, accept applications from everywhere in the north west region - including the Isle of Man."

Update: In May it was revealed that the Olympic Torch would be coming to the Isle of Man in June 2012. For more on this click here.
