March 2011: Guy Martin becomes a star of the small screen

by isleofman.com 27th December 2011

POPULAR TT rider Guy Martin became a star of the small screen in March when his new TV series aired.

The Boat That Guy Built was a six part series which followed Guy, and his friend Mark Davies, as they attempted to renovate a neglected narrowboat called Reckless.

As part of the challenge the duo could only restore it using inventions from the Industrial Revolution.

Along the way Guy was seen attempting to make a cup of tea by building his own 18th century blast furnace to cast an iron pot so that he could boil water and throwing his own traditional Wedgewood mugs so that he has something to drink from.

Guy also used other historical methods to carry out everyday tasks including reengineering a steam engine so that it powered his shower.

The Boat That Guy Built was screened on BBC One.
