'Manxman' Denys Drower passes away

by isleofman.com 14th December 2011

An author, a founder member of the Manx Poetry Society and the Isle of Man Freethinkers and a lover of all things Manx.

Just some of the descriptions of Denys Drower, who has died at the age of 93.

A former BBC announcer, Mr Drower married a Manx girl in 1947 and became entrenched in Island life for more than 30 years.

In 2005 he published his first novel, which told the adventure of a topsail schooner and its Manx captain Ffynlo Quirk.

Before he left the Isle of Man three years ago, to be near members of his family in Cambridge, he told Manx Radio of his love for the Island (listen to audio file below):

Denys Drower's funeral will be held at Cambridge Crematorium on Thursday, December 22, at 2.30pm.
