THE Children’s Centre has once again benefitted from the ‘Make a Will’ initiative, supported by Dougherty Quinn, bringing in a total of £1,130.
For the sixth year in a row the initiative involved Dougherty Quinn’s legal experts writing simple wills for free in exchange for participants making a set donation to The Children’s Centre.
All funds raised go directly towards supporting The Children’s Centre’s charitable projects such as Mobex, Out2Play, Child Contact Centre, Community Development and the Community Farm.
There were 10 appointments made this year. Michelle O’Malley, fund raising manager at The Children’s Centre, said, “We would like to thank all of the participants for their involvement in the scheme and their generous donations - and a big thank you to thank Dougherty Quinn for their continued support over the last six years and the time and expertise that they kindly gave up this year.
“It is great to see that so many people are willing to dedicate their time and really get behind this scheme. It has been running for six years now and seems to continue being a popular initiative of ours, having raised over £6,000 since the inception of the scheme in 2006.”
Many problems can be avoided by making a will. Difficulties are not confined to the wealthy, as even small estates can run into difficulties if no will has been made, as it must then be determined who is entitled to claim under Intestacy Rules. These problems can be avoided by making a will.
Annemarie Hughes, senior associate at Dougherty Quinn, said, “Dougherty Quinn is delighted to continue its support for The Children’s Centre this year. Not only does The Children’s Centre benefit from the initiative, we are able to help local people in the Isle of Man put their affairs in order by drafting their Wills.
“Our firm is committed to the provision of high quality professional legal services. Dougherty Quinn’s Private Client Department continues to provide our community with the best service possible.
“This initiative is not only a positive way to support a great local charity such as The Children’s Centre, but also serves as a useful reminder of the benefits of having a Will in place not least of which being the peace of mind that your estate will be dealt with in accordance with your wishes.”
