Two contest LegCo seat today

by isleofman.com 11th December 2011

Members of the House of Keys have a special sitting this morning (Monday), to elect a new member of the Legislative Council.

The two candidates for the seat, made vacant by the appointment of Clare Christian as president of Tynwald, are former meteorological officer and Arbory commissioner Brian Rae, and head of priority services at Standard Bank Tony Wild.

A successful candidate would have only 14 months in the position before another election was held but, on Sunday Opinion yesterday, Mr Rae said he wouldn't be there just to learn the ropes, or sit on the sidelines (first part of audio file):

On the same programme, Mr Wild said he would also try to get as involved as possible (second part of audio file):

The special sitting of the House of Keys is at 10am.
