The Manx government spent just over ?200,000 on food for inmates at Jurby prison in the last financial year, at a cost of ?1.62 a meal.
Onchan MHK Zac Hall has been told the actual sum spent was ?203,000 with an extra ?13,000 going on food for staff, vending machines and education classes relating to diet.
The sum spent in the first eight months of the current financial year was ?139,000 on prisoners' meals and a further ?12,000 on the extra items.
Mr Hall asked for similar statistics for 2009 to 2010, but has been told 2010-11 was the first year food costs were isolated from many other purchases in the Department of Home Affairs' budget reporting.
The information is supplied by Home Affairs Minister Juan Watterson.
