AN art auction has raised £3,000 for the Crossroads Caring for Carers charity.

It took place at the Hodgson Loom Gallery at Laxey Woollen Mill last Friday.

Artworks donated by more than 30 Isle of Man artists were auctioned in aid of the charity following a two week exhibition in Laxey.

Visitors to the gallery were able to view art from artists and photographers including David Byrne, Jenny Kissack, Bryony Harrison, Judith Thomson, Simon Park, Stephen Nagle and Richard Kinley.

The number of artists working with different mediums created a varied exhibition - from oil paintings to pastels, photography to watercolour and ink and glasswork to lino prints.

Chrystals Auctions hosted the auction and the funds raised will go directly towards providing respite to those caring for someone with an illness, disability, frailty, substance abuse or mental health problem in the Isle of Man.

Event co-ordinator Alex Wilson thanked all the artists who contributed to making the event such a success.

She also thanked Julia Ashby Smyth for curating the exhibition and urged members of the public to visit the gallery which is now hosting the Wood Competition.
