Ferry cancellations highlight imports issue

The Manx government could be doing much more to protect local producers, according to the managing director of Ramsey Bakery.

Yesterday (Tuesday) evening, Jim Duncan said the company could soon be forced to stop making bread because of the disruption to the sailing schedule.

He said if the next four sailings, starting with last night's 7.45pm departure from Douglas, were cancelled he would run out of yeast.

The four sailings have been scrapped, due to gale force winds, and that means there won't be any Ramsey Bakery bread on the shelves this weekend.

Mr Duncan believes the government is letting down the Isle of Man by not doing more to limit imports (first part of audio file):
