It's been confirmed the Manx government is reviewing the sum it spends advertising in local newspapers.
The bill for placing notices, planning applications and job vacancies in the publications has reached well over ?380,000 in the past 18 months.
That figure was revealed in the Legislative Council, following questions raised by Eddie Lowey, and the cost is now being considered by the Council of Ministers in budget discussions.
Mr Lowey is asking whether public notices could be placed online and in public places around the Island to save money. There is currently a requirement for them to be placed in two newspapers.
He says government may need to make tough business decisions, just like firms in the private sector (listen to audio file below):
Seven full-time and around 20 part-time jobs are to be lost at Isle of Man Newspapers, following the recent decision to have its three weekly titles printed in Sheffield.
The company says the cost of refurbishing or replacing its press in the Isle of Man is prohibitive.
