George sisters and Sarah Rigby do the Manx proud

by isleofman.com 5th December 2011

Aalin George is Junior Archer of the Year 2011.

Archery GB, the sport’s governing body in the UK, has announced the Manx archer has retained the accolade.

It capped a memorable weekend for Aalin and her younger sister Kirsten at the UK Indoor National Championships in Telford.

Aalin retained the national title, finishing first in the under 16s girls compound class to seal the Junior National Indoor title.

She is also Junior National Outdoor Champion.

Kirsten, 14, shooting in the same age group, finished third and forth overall.

There was more Manx success in the Senior Championships on Sunday with Sarah Rigby clinching the silver medal – an achievement made extra special by victory against former World Champion Nicola Simpson in the semi-final.

The George sisters also performed well again, qualifying for the knockout stages with Aalin losing narrowly in the quarter-finals.

The other four Manx senior archers were unable to compete because of the cancellation of their sailing.
