A COMPELLING adventure movie will be the next to be screened as part of the Films in Peel programme.
The Way Back will be shown at the Peel Centenary Centre on Wednesday, December 14.
It tells the story of a group of Soviet Gulag escapees who set off on a long walk to freedom across 4,000 miles of treacherous terrain from Siberia to India.
The Way Back was directed by Australian Oscar nominee Peter Weir and inspired by the book The Long Walk: A True Story of a Trek to Freedom by Slawomir Rawicz.
British actor Mark Strong plays Khabrov – the man behind the idea of escaping from the harsh Soviet Gulag but as the idea comes to fruition it becomes clear he has no intention of leaving at all.
The film also features Colin Farrell, Saoirse Ronan, Ed Harris and Jim Sturgess – who filmed Ashes in the Isle of Man in April this year.
The incredible cinematography and the tale of human endurance in the quest for freedom makes this a feel good film worth seeing.
The Way Back will start at 7.45pm. Doors open at 7.15pm. Tickets cost £4 or £3 for concessions and are available from Celtic Gold in Peel. Reservations with a seat guarantee and payable on the door can be made at Shakti Man in Ramsey, Mostly Manx in Douglas and Thompson Travel in Port Erin. Any unsold tickets will be available on the door.
