Care home manager wins UK national award

A Douglas care home manager is the toast of residents and staff after being named National Care Manager of the Year 2011.

Julie Clarke, who is general manager at Sunnydale Care Home in Ballaquayle Road, beat more than 1,200 nominees in the annual Great British Care Awards in London last week.

She has previously made the regional finals but this time scooped the top accolade in the national competition.

The award recognises her excellent standards of professional care and her determination to 'go the extra mile' for the elderly residents.

Last summer she set up a new dementia unit at Sunnydale, with rapid and positive results (listen to audio file below):

The Sunnydale Care Home is one of three run by Pearl Healthcare in the Isle of Man.
