Geordies end Ramsey resistance

by isleofman.com 3rd December 2011

The St George’s juggernaut continues in the Canada Life Premier League.

The reigning champions defeated the only side to halt their progress so far this season with a 4-0 victory over Ramsey on Saturday.

The sides had drawn 2-2 earlier in the campaign but second half goals from Sam Caine (two) – one a long-range wonder strike - Callum Morrissey and Johnny Myers, from the penalty spot, ensured there was no repeat to end Ramsey’s brave resistance.

Rushen have the southern bragging rights but they were pushed hard before defeating Castletown 4-2 in the southern derby at Croit Lowey.

Goals from Josh Kelly (two), Mike Williams and Michael Baker ensured they stayed in second spot.

Nathan Cooil and Carl Clarke were on target for battling Town.

Goals from Ashley Webster and Danny Foulis settled the match of the day in Laxey’s favour.

They ran out 2-1 home winners over St Mary’s, who replied through talented youngster Connor Gorman.

Old Boys went on the rampage at bottom club Ayre.

Four goals from Craig Stewart and a hat-trick from his brother Callum led the way in an 11-1 romp at Andreas.

Gary Quirk (two), David Quirk and Dean France netted the others.

A last-gasp goal from Andy Glover earned St John’s a point in the western derby.

Peel led at Mullen-e-Cloie through Daniel Bell’s strike and looked set to complete a league double over their rivals until Glover’s intervention.

Corinthians saw off newly promoted Ramsey Youth Centre 4-0 at Ballfletcher.

Goals from Blane Slattery, Jamie Story, Rory Mooney and Lewis Griffiths sealed all three points.
