Boat owners told to go “overboard” with Christmas decorations

by isleofman.com 4th December 2011

BOAT owners in Douglas have been invited to get creative this Christmas and give their vessels a makeover.

The Douglas Development Partnership has organised a best dressed boat competition which will be judged on December 10.

Chris Pycroft, Douglas development manager, said: "The partnership was keen that Douglas harbour, with its backdrop of the regenerated North Quay complete with its decorative lighting, should be brought into the festive atmosphere that now extends throughout the town centre.

"We're hoping that not only boat owners but also local businesses will "go overboard" with their Christmas decorations."

The inspiration for the competition comes from Robin Middleton, a national council member for the RNLI, who last year decorated his boat.

This year he has pledged to donate £100 to Douglas RNLI if more than 20 boat owners take part in the competition.

Chris continued: "Robin's magnificently decorated boat last year was the inspiration for the challenge so we're enormously grateful to him for his support for the competition."

The best dressed boat competition will be judged by members of the North Quay Community Association on December 10 at 7pm. The Mayor of Douglas will also be in attendance.

The first prize is a meal for two at Coasters Restaurant with a runner up prize of a meal for two at the Bridge Inn. There are also other prizes on offer.
