DESPITE Poundland remaining tight lipped over its plans to open a store in the Isle of Man it seems certain that the retailer is moving into Strand Street.
These pictures, which were taken today (Friday), show the old Woolworths site adorned with the Poundland colours – yellow and turquoise.
isleofman.com revealed in November that Poundland was planning to bring a Dealz store, which is an integrated part of Poundland, to the Island.
A notice on the Isle of Man Job Centre said Poundland was looking for "bright, enthusiastic candidates to work in our brand new Isle of Man store".
At the time a spokesperson for the company said it "would not be appropriate" to disclose any further information about the proposed store as plans had not been finalised.
However later that month Dealz Ltd applied for planning consent to erect signs on the front of the shop which is located at 32 -36 Strand Street.
Workmen have been seen in the shop over the last two weeks and the white boards which had been put up to hide the empty building have been taken down.
The shop front has been painted and black bin bags have been put up in the windows to obscure the inside of the shop from passing members of the public – although it is possible to see a new wooden floor and turquoise till units.
isleofman.com has contacted Poundland for more information on the new store. No one was available for comment.
