TWO senior executives from legal firm Dougherty Quinn will give the first Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators (ICSA) Isle of Man presentations of 2012 in January.
Tom Maher, director, and Annemarie Hughes, senior associate at Dougherty Quinn’s specialist trust team, will give an address on “Foundations: Ready, Steady, Go – A Practical Perspective”.
It follows on from the Isle of Man Foundations Act 2011 receiving Royal Assent in November this year and the updated Financial Services Rule Book and Regulated Activities Order, coming into operation on January 1, 2012.
These will make it possible for Isle of Man fiduciary service providers to act as registered agent, enforcer and council member of a Foundation. The Foundations (Winding Up) Regulations 2011 and Foundations (Continuance) Regulations 2011, made under the Foundations Act will also come into operation on January 1, 2012.
Dougherty Quinn is a leading full service law practice based in the Isle of Man, advising on Isle of Man and BVI law.
Tom Maher, Head of Corporate & Commercial at Dougherty Quinn, is a regular speaker on legal topics, having presented to ACCA and ICSA on various topics. Tom has also spoken at Lexis Nexis and Informa IBC offshore conferences.
He has published articles in leading publications such as Satellite Finance and Tax Notes International and for years wrote the Isle of Man chapter in Trust & Trustee World Survey. He is a past Secretary of the Isle of Man Law Society and currently serves as auditor of the Law Society.
Annemarie Hughes, Senior Associate, Dougherty Quinn, joined the company in 2010 from Appleby following previous experience as a tax consultant and trust director in an Isle of Man fiduciary. Annemarie’s practice focuses on complex trust structures and advice. She is an affiliate member of the Association of Pension Service Providers and advises many of the Island’s leading pension providers.
A Chartered Tax Adviser, STEP and Chartered Institute of Taxation committee member, Annemarie is also chairman of the Insurance & Pensions Tribunal, and member of the Income Tax Commissioners. Annemarie was one of the speakers at the recent Informa IBC “Future of Trusts –Isle of Man” conference which was hailed by the organiser as a “phenomenal success”. Annemarie is a senior member of DQ’s specialist trust team.
