THE first snow of winter could be on its way to the Isle of Man at the end of the weekend or early next week.
The official 5-day forecast from the Met Office at Ronaldsway says that the Isle of Man can expect “wintry showers on hills” on Monday, together with strong winds throughout the weekend and beyond.
A spokesman for the Met office said this morning that snow was "possible" late on Sunday or on Monday, but that it would be confined to the hills and the highest roads, mostly above 1,000ft. Some snowflakes were spotted amongst the rain in the late afternoon yesterday.
The forecast also suggests that ground frost is a possibility around the Island. Valleys and sheltered spots are most likely to see frost.
Strong winds have already affected ferry sailings this week and it’s possible that the forecast of very strong winds for the next five days could possibly result in further disruption to crossings.*
With the arrival of December, temperatures have also dropped noticeably in recent days and the 5-day forecast shows that the thermometer is likely to struggle to reach double figures for several days.
