THE review process on the pensions paid to members of Tynwald has reached the point where the committee created to look into the matter will shortly be consulting members on a detailed proposal.
The clerk of the Emoluments Committee, Jonathan King, said today in a statement that letters had gone out to all Tynwald members updating them on the review process.
Three MHKs were elected by Tynwald to the committee in October and have already had a first meeting.
The process began in 2008 when Speaker Steve Rodan first informed Tynwald that the committee was keeping a watching brief on the wider public sector pension reforms, in case they had implications for Members’ pensions.
In July last year Tynwald invited the committee to proceed with the review and to consider the introduction of Members making a contribution to their pensions.
The members of the Emoluments Committee are Steve Rodan SHK, MHKs David Cretney, Tim Crookall and Howard Quayle and MLCs Alex Downie, Eddie Lowey and Juan Turner.
