The Ben-my-Chree arrived back in Douglas from Heysham early this evening (Wednesday), after a particularly rough journey.
The vessel was forced to approach the harbour from a different angle, to try and minimise the impact of the swell.
In the past hour (4.15pm), the Steam Packet said it was considering an early departure for Heysham this evening, to take advantage of less severe weather conditions.
However, it has now cancelled the scheduled 7.45pm departure, and the return to Douglas, at 2.15am.
The next ferry leaving the Island will be the 8.45am sailing to Heysham tomorrow morning, by which time the gales will have passed.
Sea conditions on Thursday are expected to be slight to moderate.
