Minister to check on bow thrusters

The infrastructure minister has told MHKs cancellations of Ben-my-Chree sailings are made by the captain of the vessel in the light of prevailing weather conditions.

David Cretney was answering a question from fellow South Douglas MHK Kate Beecroft, who wanted to know if recent cancellations were just down to the weather, or if bow thruster problems also played a part.

Mr Cretney said the information given to him was that the weather was the only problem, but he would check with the Steam Packet to see if there were other difficulties that he hadn't been told about (first part of audio file):

In reply to a supplementary question from Zac Hall, in which the Onchan MHK claimed a damaged bow thruster meant the Ben-my-Chree had restricted access to Heysham in windy conditions, Mr Cretney said he had never been a fan of the Lancashire port (second part of audio file):
