A FEMALE pedestrian who was hit by a car at The Bowl in Douglas earlier this month has died.

Police have named the woman as Christina Collister who was 37 and from Douglas.

She was hit by a blue Renault Clio car at approximately 6.20pm on Tuesday, November 8, on the access road near to the rear of the Football Association building.

The car was travelling towards Pulrose Bridge and collided with Mrs Collister who was walking within the cycle lane with her son towards the Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club.

The collision caused Mrs Collister to be knocked over a small embankment and into the river running adjacent to the road.

As a result of the collision Mrs Collister suffered serious leg injuries and had to be rescued from the river.

Her son and the occupants of the car were not injured.

Mrs Collister was treated at Noble's Hospital and was released late last week however she sadly died on Friday, November 25.

Inspector Terry Stephen of the Roads Policing Unit said: "This is a tragic and unexpected loss and our thoughts are with the Collister family.

"At this stage it is too early to attribute Mrs Collister's death to the collision on November 8 but we must investigate the circumstances of that collision in detail now in case that becomes the conclusion.

"At the time of the collision we believe that several people were coming and going from the both the Ellan Vannin Gymnastics Club and the FA facilities in The Bowl.

"I am particularly interested in speaking to anybody who thinks they saw the collision or the Renault Clio car being driven on the access road prior to the collision."

Mrs Collister's husband Alan has paid tribute to his wife and said her death was a "great loss".

He said: "Christina was a wonderful wife and a loving and devoted mother. She touched many people's lives and had recently starting working at Cronk-y-Berry school. She loved her new job and the children especially those that needed a hug - that was the kind of person she was."

This evening (Tuesday) police officers will be located around The Bowl in an effort to meet anyone who may have witnessed the collision. Alternatively anyone who can help police with their enquiries is asked to contact Police Headquarters on 01624 631212.
