THE Christmas lights in Castletown will be switched on at 5pm today (Saturday).
It is part of a series of activities taking place in the town as part of the Tinseltown event.
There will also be a Christmas Kingdom within Castle Rushen, a festive market and live music.
Castletown commissioner Colin Leather said: "The event promises to be a great family day out and a wonderful opportunity to support the many local traders in Castletown. This really does promise to be a special event for families and visitors to enjoy."
Festive music will be provided by the Victoria Road school choir, Castletown Band and the Manx Saxophone Ensemble and there will be festive food including roast chestnuts and mulled wine on sale in Castletown Square.
The Castletown Chamber of Commerce will be holding a prize draw with participating shops and there will be a Christmas shop at Castle Rushen which will stock Manx Christmas gifts.
Friends of Manx National Heritage have been busy decorating Castle Rushen with traditional garlands, wreaths and tree decorations in time for Santa's arrival.
Edmund Southworth, the director of Manx National Heritage, said: "We are delighted to work in partnership with so many other agencies. Tinseltown is a real community event which shows the Island at its best.
"Castle Rushen has been at the heart of the Manx community for over 800 years and we are very pleased to use this fantastic building in such an enjoyable and family friendly way."
Tinseltown will take place today and tomorrow from 10am to 5pm.
Isle of Man Railways is running Santa Trains to help transport members of the public to the event. Trains will depart Douglas at 9.50am, 11.15am, 12.50pm and 2.15pm. Return trains are also available.
Tickets include a shuttle bus transfer to the Christmas market and a visit and gift from Father Christmas. Adults who show their train ticket in the George Hotel in Castletown Square will be eligible for a free mince pie and mulled wine.
