TWO sailors from the Isle of Man have been presented with prestigious awards from the Royal Yachting Association.
Russell Armstrong and Michael Kneale were awarded community awards by Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal who is the president of the association.
Both men were nominated by the Isle of Man Yacht Club and attended the awards ceremony, where they were presented with a commemorative medallion and certificate, in London on November 23.
Russell has been credited with generating a renewed interest in the Isle of Man Yacht Club since joining in 1997.
He has held various positions including commodore and flag officer and has been involved in running three national 18' championships in Port St Mary.
Michael has been a member of the Isle of Man Yacht Club since he was a toddler and is currently serving his second term as commodore.
Sarah Treseder, the chief executive of the Royal Yachting Association, said: The Royal Yachting Association is delighted to make these volunteer awards in recognition of Russell and Michael's enthusiasm, promotion of our sport and many years contribution to the Isle of Man's sailing scene.
"All 48 Royal Yachting Association winners are an inspiration to us all and it is my pleasure to recognise and celebrate their sheer hard work and commitment through these awards."
