Market Hall survey surprise

by isleofman.com 25th November 2011

A user of Douglas Market Hall has told Manx Radio he was surprised by a question he was asked in a survey about the future of the building.

Douglas Borough Council is currently carrying out research to find out what people think of the facility, and what should be done with it.

On the official sheet there are four options for the Victorian building, namely sold to the highest bidder but preserved, sold and demolished if necessary, kept in public ownership but used for a different purpose, or 'other'. People are being asked to expand on the final option.

However, the man who has spoken to Manx Radio says that's not how the choices were presented to him when he was questioned by a woman outside Boots in the past few days (listen to audio file below):

Manx Radio has spoken to Island Analysis, a Guernsey-based company which helped devise the survey and is employing the people asking the questions.

It says it doesn't have a female working for them outside Boots.

Douglas Council leader David Christian is urging members of the the public to ask for ID to prove the person is an official questioner who is working for Island Analysis.
