Ubuntu slides to fourth in web list

by isleofman.com 25th November 2011

A Manx-based company's computer operating system has slid in popularity over the last year, according to a website.

Ubuntu, produced by Douglas-based Canonical software, has been leading the pack of Linux distributions in recent years.

But according to the latest rankings from DistroWatch, it's now the fourth most popular version of Linux in the world.

The most popular form of Linux, Mint, is however based on Ubuntu.

The positions are based on the number of website hits each form of Linux gets.

Distrowatch says it's impossible to judge from that data whether the number of people using Ubuntu is declining.
