Boat owners warned after overloading case

by isleofman.com 24th November 2011

A boat owner has been fined after overloading a vessel on trips between the Isle of Man and Northern Ireland.

Grahame Stronge admitted failing to comply with certification regulations at Downpatrick Magistrates Court.

The court heard the Sarah May III motor yacht was licensed to carry up to 12 passengers and three crew, but in June 2008 was spotted on CCTV in Peel and Strangford carrying more than 20 people.

The United Kingdom Maritime and Coastguard Agency, which brought the prosecution, says it's a warning to commercial and leisure operators about the risks of carrying too many passengers.
