Minister recognises reasons for printing switch

The minister for economic development says it's disappointing but not surprising that Isle of Man Newspapers is to move its printing off-Island next year.

John Shimmin was told about the decision first thing yesterday (Monday) morning, just before it was made public.

Seven full-time posts are to go, along with around 20 part-time positions.

The switch to the United Kingdom is being blamed largely on the company's outdated printing press, but Mr Shimmin says it wouldn't be right for the Manx government to pick up the cost of replacement equipment:
