A former editor of the Manx Independent says today's announcement from Isle of Man Newspapers means that, for the first time in decades, none of the Island's weekly papers will be printed here.
Bill Dale, who edited the Independent before it was bought by Isle of Man Newspapers, says the decision to close the press, and transfer printing to Sheffield, will affect not only seven full-time members of staff, but many more casual and part-time workers.
He also says the switch to off-Island printing has been on the horizon for some time:
