THE delegated responsibilities of the two political members of the Department of Home Affairs have been revealed by Minister Juan Watterson.

The Minister himself will retain responsibility for the Isle of Man Constabulary and the integrated Prison and Probation Service.

David Quirk MHK will be the political champion of the Drug and Alcohol Strategy and take on responsibility for Community Service and Special Projects.

Alan Crowe MLC has delegated responsibility for the Fire and Rescue Service, Emergency Planning and Civil Defence, and the Communications Service. He remains chairman of the Police Advisory Group.

The Minister said, “I am delighted to welcome David Quirk to the Department of Home Affairs and to retain the services of Alan Crowe. They bring a wealth of experience and insight to the department’s affairs and I look forward to working with them for the benefit of the people of the Isle of Man.

“My department makes an important contribution to the quality of life we enjoy in the Island by providing services that help local communities to feel safe, protected and secure.

“There is a dedicated and professional team in place at Home Affairs and the members and I will work in close partnership with officers to build on the department’s strong reputation.”

The announcement of the departmental delegations has been welcomed by chief executive Mark Kelly who said, “I am confident the members will support the minister with great conviction and enthusiasm and will develop a good rapport with officers.”
