Douglas Council shows off playground investment

by isleofman.com 20th November 2011

DOUGLAS Borough Council has spent £180,000 on two new play areas for the Isle of Man.

The new playgrounds are located at Ballaughton Country Park and in Willaston.

Equipment at both sites has been supplied by UK specialist manufacturer Wicksteed and installed on British standard approved safety surfacing.

The Ballaughton playground is aimed at toddlers and young children and the playground at Willaston is suitable for children up to the age of 14.

Councillor Stephen Pitts, leisure services committee chairman, said: "The playgrounds represent an investment of £180,000 and are yet another demonstration of the council’s prudent budgeting that ensures we are able to continue our commitment to upgrade leisure facilities throughout the borough."

Mayor of Douglas Ritchie McNicholl officially opened both playgrounds. He said: "The playgrounds are at the heart of their respective communities and the challenging play environments have been designed to stimulate young children's imagination and provide opportunities for them to develop new physical and social skills. I am also pleased to confirm they are tremendous fun."
