Social Care Minister seeks Tynwald approval to spend ?220,000

by isleofman.com 15th November 2011

THE Department of Social Care will ask for Tynwald approval for three projects which will cost £220,000.

The department is seeking approval for the projects – two in support of affordable housing and one for social services – under the Minor Capital Works Programme.

Work that will be carried out includes the resurfacing of the car park at Ballabrooie in Sulby to remove pot holes and trip hazards and ease the parking congestion on the estate.

28 houses at Glen Mooar in Laxey will also have work carried out on them if Tynwald approval is given. This will involve renewing the soffits, fascia and guttering to each house on the department's estate.

The third project is to refurbish and renovate the properties on Tynwald Terrace in Douglas in order to provide supported living accommodation for some adults recovering from mental illness.

Social Care Minister Chris Robertshaw MHK said: "These minor capital works had previously been planned to occur as part of longer term programmes to the department's properties.

"Bringing them forward to this time will deliver real benefits both in terms of the quality and range of housing for those in need and also provide continuing work for the Island's construction industry."

The November sitting of Tynwald starts this morning (Tuesday) at 10.30am.
