Pavements to be refurbished on Prospect Hill

by isleofman.com 12th November 2011

WORK to refurbish pavements on Prospect Hill in Douglas will start on Monday (November 14).

A one way system will be introduced for motorists to make Prospect Hill one way out of town between Finch Road and Circular Road while the work is taking place.

People travelling into Douglas along Buck's Road will be required to turn right at Circular Road, where temporary amendments to the traffic signals will be made.

The Department of Infrastructure said: "The existing dilapidated concrete footways between Circular Road and Athol Street are to be replaced with new kerbs and block paving.

"Improvements will also be made to drainage and additionally, lowered kerbs and tactile paving will be installed at junctions to facilitate easier crossing with pushchairs and wheelchairs.

"It is intended that the footway from Circular Road to Hill Street will be completed before Christmas, with work continuing in the New Year as far as Athol Street to the Upper Church Street junction.

"The work has been programmed to minimise disruption to traffic and pedestrians, with noisy excavation work being carried out outside of office hours to minimise the impact on local businesses.

"The department apologises for any inconvenience caused but would like to assure the public that these works will result in a significant improvement to the quality of pedestrian facilities in this busy part of Douglas."
