War memorials: a timely reminder

by isleofman.com 11th November 2011

The importance of preserving war memorials has been raised on the day the Isle of Man remembers those who have given their lives in conflicts around the world.

Chairman of the Preservation of War Memorials Committee Juan Watterson MHK says it's vital the details of all the Island's monuments are collated for future generations.

There are around 160 memorials around the Island holding almost 10,000 names, but there could be many more.

Mr Watterson says memorials come in many different forms (listen to audio file below):

To mark the 90th anniversary of the Royal British Legion there will be a talk about war memorials at the iMuseum in Kingswood Grove, Douglas, tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon.
